Workshop 1 : Having Fun Reshaping Your Reality

By Ulrike Weissenbacher

Brussels: 12 October 2016

Your reality is created by beliefs and perceptions, thoughts and feelings. These ingredients make up the “hardwired program” of your brain and the emotional addiction of your body. This first part is well-known. But did you know that it also makes up the biochemical cocktail flushing around in our bodies − the exact mixture that our body is addicted to. We are talking of an addiction to our state of being.

To reshape our reality, it is not enough to simply change our beliefs, partners, jobs etc. This assumption is where so many people stumble.

Have you ever had the experience where you are trying and getting better; the change starts to show in your life, and suddenly, the “program” catches up with you, holds you back or even sends you “back to the start”?

The question is, can we biologically change?

Can we actually bust the brain-body-loop that keeps informing itself of the ever same patterns? Can thoughts actually become matter?

In this workshop we are going to delve into the possibilities of moving from thinking to doing to being, right into the creation zone of your being. Creating a “new you”. You will discover how you can wire circuits in your brain together so they start firing together in the way you desire. As a result, you can start to recondition your body to a new mind and signal your genes in a new way.

We will look at the scientific background, at the biochemical processes and the three steps to actual change. In a very practical way we will play, meditate and start out on our joyful change experience.

Workshop 2: A Tête-à-Tête with Things

By Julie Ann (Jules) Gilleland

Brussels: 18 October 2016

Join us for a fun engaging workshop filled with play, conversation, creation and thinking. Sit down across from someone you don’t normally talk to and work together on a question or thought in front of you using only recycled circles brought in from their own homes/offices. (items will be provided for this workshop).

This is a hands-on workshop about how the “things” around us can become thinking tools in the classroom or office, in the same way we use paper and pencil.

About Julie Anne (Jules) Gilleland

Designer, mother of 3 boys and education change maker with over 18 years experience in the field of design and education. In 2007 Jules founded Turtlewings, a non-profit center in Brussels Belgium, welcoming educators, children and families to explore design thinking in relation to educational concepts. The idea was based on her masters thesis that she completed in 2000 at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland.

Presently, she is the CEO and Co-founder of Think with Things founded in 2014. An Edtech company based in the UK, Think with Things is striving to make a difference in education on a global level by bringing idea of hands on learning through play, and thinking with found objects into the normal everyday structured learning environments of children as well as adults.

Her passion lies in working with educational institutions, government initiatives, museums and corporations in the field of creating experiences and environments that inspire creative thinking. She is an expert at executing innovative programming centered on child and or adult learning, the design of learning environments, and inspiring individuals to reach their full potential. She loves presenting and training, and has played with a variety of groups from teams of teachers, museum practitioners, business people, artists, parents and children from 0-99.

Workshop 3: Presence in Front of a Group

Or the Art of Being Comfortable Being You

By Susan Wild and Barry O’Halpin

Brussels: 26 October 2016

Speaking in public can be nerve-wracking. And it’s often harder in front of a small group of colleagues, because we can feel particularly visible and even judged. Join us to discover ways to get more comfortable in these situations. This is a practical session. You’ll be discovering and trying out techniques from theatre and storytelling performance, which help increase confidence from the feet up, and using posture and voice to give you more ‘presence’.

About Susan Wild

Susan spent 20 years of her professional life sitting at a desk working as a marketing communications specialist, writing content and running projects for major international companies. But throughout that time she longed to be moving and to communicate beyond words on the page. So in 2014, Susan decided to come out from behind the screen for good. She took a course in storytelling (Your Journey, Your Voice) at the International School of Storytelling at Emerson College in the UK. Since then, Susan has combined freelance writing with creating and performing stories. Her experience of learning to perform has convinced her that confidence starts with our posture and movement, not what goes on in our heads.

About Barry O’Halpin

Barry moved to Brussels in 1994. Always a gregarious person, though also rather shy, he moved into English Language Teaching, taking his TEFL diploma from the Dublin School of English. A teaching method based on ‘suggestopaedia’ (where learning is aided by employing the right, or creative, side of the brain), re-awoke Barry’s dormant love of acting and theatre. In 2010 he took a Teaching Certificate in Communications with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, followed two years later by the certificate in Performance. Barry has worked in communications training throughout this time, including incorporating it in his EFL work, and has used the skills he has learned in his drama teaching to help others achieve a sense of presence and confidence through posture and voice. Barry has also both acted in and directed plays with a range of amateur dramatic groups in Brussels and Antwerp.

Imagination Club workshop “How to deliver an awesome workshop at the Imagination Club or anywhere”

Facilitated by: Jeffrey Baumgartner

If you want to learn the secrets to running an awesome workshop, join us for an Imagination Club session that will enable you to do just that. Whether you have never run a workshop in your life or you are a professional trainer wanting to hone your already considerable skills, this event is for you.

A number of our members have asked for advice and tips on presenting workshops at the Brussels Imagination Club. So, after much thought, intense discussion and perhaps a beer or two, Andy and Jeffrey decided to take a break from our usual strict rule that Imagination Club workshops should be experimental in nature. Instead, on this occasion only, Jeffrey will share his experiences and knowledge on how to run awesome workshops. The focus will be on Imagination Club workshops, of course, but the things you learn will be applicable to workshops delivered anywhere.

About Jeffrey
Jeffrey is an internationally respected expert and author on creativity who has delivered workshops, keynote speeches and motivational speeches to conferences, companies, non-profits and governments around the world, from cutting edge pharmaceutical companies in the US to governments and conglomerates in the Mideast. He is also the co-founder and co-organiser of the Brussels Imagination Club.

His latest book is Anticonventional Thinking – the Creative Alternative to Brainstorming.

Jeffrey’s latest project is AwesomeYou.Be − a resource on life-change and self-improvement after 40.

Imagination Club Workshop on: “Being Wise Together”

Facilitated by: Frans Nijs and Anita Sheehan

Have you ever struggled with a question that was yours to solve, but which that affected more than just yourself? Try as you might, you could not come up with a satisfactory answer?

We have all been there at some point, but there is hope, because one way of working through such questions, when you find yourself unable to go it alone, is to create an environment where you can draw from the experience and the wisdom of a larger group. One such tried and tested way is a technique called the “World Café”.

Of course, the best way to understand the World Café concept is to experience it. So, we’ve set it up for you! Frans Nijs and Anita Sheehan will guide you through the World Café approach and help you uncover the mysteries of how to integrate the insights of people from various backgrounds and cultures to create a better world to live in.

You are invited to learn about this collective intelligence method and to discover “the Magic in the Middle.”

About Frans
Frans Nijs is a practitioner of the Art of Hosting, writer, philosopher, cyclist and civil servant (not necessarily in this order of importance).

About Anita
Anita likes nothing better than bringing out the best in individuals and organizations. In her experience, collective intelligence practices, including the World Café, are excellent tools to ensure that people are fully engaged in the dynamics of an organization and thus happier to contribute with all their talents, capacities and passion.
